We're recruiting on behalf of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council for a Waste Resource Management Chargehand within the Recycling Centre service, supporting the delivery of safe, efficient and high quality recycling and waste management operations across the borough.
Locations: Recycling Centres across the Borough including Bruslee, Craigmore, Crumlin, Newpark and O'Neill sites.

You will contribute directly to operational safety, service standards, staff coordination and the Council's commitment to delivering compliant, effective and continuously improving facilities for local residents.
The Role
- Supervise daily operations across Household Recycling Centres, ensuring sites are clean, customer focused, legally compliant and opened or closed at designated times.
- Coordinate, deploy and support Recycling Centre operatives, ensuring staff have the equipment, vehicles and materials required to work efficiently.
- Monitor recycling quality, maintain operational records, report performance information and support compliance with Duty of Care, Health and Safety and waste legislation.
- Manage fleet, plant and equipment safely and effectively, working with Fleet colleagues to ensure servicing, maintenance and legal compliance.
- Provide high quality customer service, handling enquiries, complaints and liaising with the public on services where charges may apply.
- Support staff management including attendance monitoring, induction, training, toolbox talks and HR processes such as recruitment or disciplinary actions where required.
- Contribute flexibly across Waste Management operations including refuse collection, street cleansing, commercial waste promotion and deputising for Supervisors when needed.
You will play an active role in maintaining high service standards, supporting effective teamwork and helping ensure efficient and positive service delivery across all recycling centre sites.
Key Requirements
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs including English and Maths, or equivalent. Candidates without formal qualifications may be considered with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Minimum of 1 year's supervisory experience in refuse collection, street cleansing or household recycling.
- Full current driving licence or access to suitable transport (reasonable adjustments apply).
The Package
- £15.31 per hour plus allowance.
- 37 hours per week.
