Are you an experienced Biomedical Scientist looking to take the next step in a progressive and technically advanced laboratory environment? We're recruiting for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) to join a high-performing Clinical Biochemistry team, supporting the delivery of accurate, timely and high-quality diagnostic services within a busy acute setting.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to apply their expertise, contribute to service development and play a key role in maintaining quality, safety and accreditation standards.

The Role

As Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you will:

  • Perform specialist analytical testing on a range of biological samples, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Support the day-to-day running of the laboratory across multiple sections.
  • Validate and report results in line with departmental protocols.
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Contribute to method evaluation, validation and continuous improvement.
  • Support quality management systems and UKAS ISO 15189 accreditation.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs, health & safety and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in audits and quality assurance processes.
  • Assist in training and supporting junior staff.
  • Participate in a 24/7 rota including evenings, weekends and public holidays.

You will work both independently and as part of a team, ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

Essential Criteria

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • IBMS Specialist Diploma (or equivalent) in Clinical Biochemistry.
  • Post-registration experience within Clinical Biochemistry or similar.
  • Experience working in a regulated laboratory environment.
  • Strong understanding of quality systems and compliance.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rota.
  • Full UK driving licence or access to transport.
Desirable Criteria

Experience in a UKAS ISO 15189 accredited laboratory.

  • Experience supporting audits or accreditation processes.
  • Experience training or mentoring junior staff.
