Credit Manager
An established banking group are now seeking an experienced Credit Manager to join Credit team within Risk Management. This is a key second-line role, supporting robust credit assessment, underwriting, and the effective co-management of credit risk across the C&B portfolio in Northern Ireland and the wider UK.
This is a brand new, full-time permanent position to be based in their Belfast office with a hybrid working structure.
The Role:
As Credit Manager, you will play a central role in credit risk assessment, portfolio oversight, and process improvement. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting second-line credit assessment and underwriting in line with Group Credit Policy and risk appetite
- Exercising Delegated Lending Authority (DLA) to support ongoing business growth
- Assessing credit applications for financial, structural, ESG, geopolitical, security and energy risks
- Supporting customers in financial difficulty, where required
- Enhancing the sourcing, quality, and use of portfolio, sectoral, and credit data
- Supporting the development of stress testing frameworks across sectors and portfolio segments
- Driving process improvement, automation, and the adoption of new risk-based analysis techniques
- Collaborating closely with 1st line banking teams, data analytics, automation, and Group credit stakeholders
- Identifying portfolio issues, risk trends, and improvement opportunities
- Supporting training and capability development across Credit and 1st line teams
- Deputising for senior leadership and presenting cases in internal and Group Credit forums as required
The Person:
The successful Credit Manager will demonstrate:
- Experience as a Credit Manager or senior credit professional within Corporate or Business Banking
- Strong understanding of C&B portfolios, products, and sectoral risk
- Proven ability to influence, challenge, and negotiate with senior stakeholders
- Experience presenting credit analysis and recommendations in credit committee or risk forum settings
- Strong decision-making capability under pressure, using complex data and tight deadlines
- Commercial awareness combined with a strong customer-outcome focus
- Broad knowledge of core lending facilities and ancillary products
- Experience working with customers across Northern Ireland and the wider UK, across a range of sectors
Desirable:
- Exposure to data analytics, automation, robotics or AI decisioning within credit processes
- Experience supporting sustainability-led or transition-focused lending
- Knowledge of stress testing and scenario analysis
Criteria:
- Demonstrable experience in a related credit, banking or finance role
- Degree in Business, Finance, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Relevant professional or postgraduate qualifications (e.g. Accountancy, Institute of Bankers) advantageous
