I'm working with a fast-scaling data and AI organisation, part of a wider global group, who are building out their UK presence following their strongest year to date. They develop and deliver AI-driven products and services into UK utilities and other data-rich enterprise environments. With a strong pipeline already in place and new AI and agentic solutions coming to market, they're now hiring a senior Pre-Sales Engineer to support continued growth across the UK.
Despite the title, this is a senior individual contributor role. The "Manager" designation reflects the level and package structure rather than people management responsibility.
The Role
This sits right between product and revenue. You'll partner with Sales to engage UK utility clients, design and run tailored demos and POCs, and translate complex AI capability into clear operational and commercial outcomes. This is not quota-carrying sales. It's about increasing win rates by:
- Running sharp, customer-specific demos
- Delivering focused 1-2 week proof of concepts
- Assessing client data maturity and integration feasibility
- Translating features into measurable business impact
- Acting as the technical-commercial bridge between customer and product
You'll work closely with product, data science and marketing, feeding real market signals back into roadmap and messaging.
What Success Looks Like
Within the first 6 months, you'll be:
- Increasing lead-to-prospect and prospect-to-customer conversion
- Improving win rates by 15-20%
- Confidently leading technical discussions with senior operational stakeholders
- Designing POCs that prove value quickly without turning into delivery projects
Your Background
You're likely coming from:
- Pre-Sales / Solutions Engineering
- Technical Consulting
- Or a senior Data Scientist / AI Engineer role with strong client exposure
You'll bring:
- Strong Python and SQL fundamentals
- Experience working with modern data platforms (Databricks, data lakes, ML environments)
- Confidence building lightweight demo environments
- The ability to explain AI and analytics in business language
- Genuine commercial curiosity
Utilities experience is helpful but not essential. What matters more is your ability to understand operational pain points and connect them to measurable outcomes.
The Environment
Flat, collaborative structure
- Startup energy within a global group
- Direct access to product and technical leadership
- Significant UK growth focus
- Hybrid model: 3 days per week in their London office.
- Travel approx. 25-30% across the UK (travel days count as office days).
If you enjoy being client-facing but still hands-on technically, and want to influence both win rates and product direction in a fast-moving AI environment, this is a strong opportunity to step into something genuinely high-impact.
