We're working with a fast-growing technology business that uses AI, data and technology to transform how insurance companies and agents acquire customers through digital channels. Their Belfast engineering team is responsible for a high-traffic digital marketplace that plays a critical role in the wider business. The platform is continually evolving, with a strong focus on functionality, performance, user experience and modern engineering practices.

The Role

  • You'll be joining a small, collaborative engineering team working closely with internal stakeholders to build and enhance a major customer-facing platform.
  • The role is strongly front-end focused, with React and TypeScript at the heart of the technology stack.
  • There will also be opportunities to contribute across the wider application, including some backend development.
  • A significant part of the team's development environment involves AI-assisted engineering and agentic AI.
  • You'll have the opportunity to mentor more junior engineers and contribute to technical direction.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Building and improving high-traffic customer-facing web applications.
  • Developing primarily with React and TypeScript.
  • Contributing to backend development where required.
  • Working across a modern cloud-based engineering environment.
  • Using AI-assisted development tools as part of your day-to-day engineering workflow.
  • Contributing to technical design and architectural discussions.
  • Working closely with product and internal stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective technical solutions.
  • Helping mentor and support junior members of the team.
  • Taking ownership of projects and being able to clearly articulate your technical decisions and their impact.

What We're Looking For

  • Around 4-5 years of commercial software engineering experience, or someone who is at an early Senior Engineer level.
  • Strong commercial experience with React.
  • Excellent TypeScript skills.
  • Experience building and maintaining modern front-end applications.
  • Some experience with backend development.
  • Experience working with AWS would be beneficial, although this isn't essential.
  • A genuine interest in modern AI-assisted development and emerging engineering practices.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns and technical decision-making.
  • The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach and strong relationship-building skills.
  • Experience mentoring junior developers would be highly desirable.

The Team

You'll be joining a close-knit engineering team consisting of: 1 Lead Engineer, 2 Senior Engineers, 1 Junior Engineer, Engineering Manager. The role reports into an experienced Engineering Manager and offers plenty of scope to develop your technical skills and progress through a clear engineering career ladder.
