MCS is partnering with the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust to recruit a dedicated, detail-oriented professional to join their Laboratories, Surgery and Specialist Services directorate as a Band 3 Medical Laboratory Assistant. Based within the Belfast Trust Laboratories, this is a vital role supporting the technical and practical delivery of a comprehensive laboratory service. This isn't a role for someone who wants a standard 9-to-5 routine. This is for an adaptable laboratory professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is ready to support critical clinical operations.
Requirements:
- Qualifications & Experience: 1 year's relevant laboratory experience.
- Availability: Ability to fully cover a 24-hour service, including extended working days, overnights, weekends, and bank/public holidays as part of a conditioned 37.5-hour work week.
- Skills: Strong communication skills, ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team, and a highly flexible approach to work.
Your Responsibilities:
- Sample Reception & Pre-Analysis: Performing general sample reception duties, sorting and distributing specimens, processing data within the labs, and handling the layout and distribution of lab reports.
- Technical Assistance: Preparing specimens for analysis, operating and loading various analysers and instruments under supervision, and handling basic troubleshooting or recording maintenance faults.
- Equipment & Stock Maintenance: Carrying out day-to-day equipment maintenance (including cleaning and calibration procedures), keeping a clean working area, and managing stock levels of essential consumables.
- Laboratory Support: Preparing required solutions/reagents, securely removing and disposing of laboratory waste according to departmental procedures, and assisting with the delivery and storage of incoming goods.
- Team Collaboration: Liaising closely with section heads regarding daily workloads, mentoring and training new or rotating staff, and attending team meetings.
