MCS Group is delighted to be recruiting the Head of Bus Fleet Engineering for a highly recognised transport organisation based in Northern Ireland. This is a senior leadership role offering an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to make a future impact on our transport operations here in Northern Ireland.

The opportunity:

  • To lead and manage the Bus Fleet Engineering Department, ensuring the safe, reliable, efficient, and high-quality maintenance and presentation of buses, coaches, BRT vehicles, and internal user cars and vans in accordance with operational requirements, legislative obligations, engineering standards, and allocated budgets.
  • To provide effective leadership to the Bus Engineering team, delivering major change and improvement programmes while fostering a strong culture of safety, customer focus, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for optimising fleet performance, maintaining regulatory compliance, managing resources effectively, and supporting the achievement of wider business objectives.

The successful candidate:

  • Qualified to Degree level or equivalent in an Engineering or Management discipline. If a Management degree, must also have a supporting engineering qualification to minimum standard of HNC or equivalent.
  • Experience in managing interfaces within an engineering environment.
  • Experience in managing people within an engineering environment.
  • Experience in managing complex projects.
  • Experience with Trade Union engagement.
  • Management experience within vehicle fleet engineering.
  • Good understanding of Lean Management/Operations with knowledge of health and safety, environmental and employment legislation.
  • Financial and budget management experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
