MCS Group is partnering with a successful global network test and measurement technology company as it expands its EMEA team. This newly created Field Applications Engineer position combines hands-on networking, technical customer support and pre-sales engineering. You will become a technical expert across a portfolio of specialist network testing products, helping customers understand how the technology can support their individual applications and testing requirements.

What will you be doing?

  • Acting as a first-line technical contact for customers and partners.
  • Leading the technical qualification of customer opportunities.
  • Understanding customer applications, networks and testing requirements.
  • Recommending and demonstrating appropriate technical solutions.
  • Helping customers create test plans and measurement configurations.
  • Configuring and troubleshooting network test environments.
  • Investigating technical issues and analysing test results.
  • Delivering technical demonstrations and customer training.
  • Helping customers automate testing using scripting and product interfaces.
  • Supporting commercial colleagues with technical expertise.
  • Attending customer visits, trade shows and interoperability events.
  • Travelling independently throughout the EMEA region.

You will not carry an individual commercial sales target. A Business Development Manager will remain responsible for commercial discussions, allowing you to focus on the technical solution and customer outcome.

What are we looking for?

  • Strong practical networking and Ethernet knowledge.
  • Proven experience working directly with external customers.

You could currently be working as a:

  • Field Applications Engineer.
  • Network Engineer.
  • Network Test Engineer.
  • Field Engineer.
  • Systems Engineer.
  • Technical Support Engineer.
  • Product Support Engineer.
  • Solutions Engineer.
  • Pre-Sales Engineer.

You should also have:

  • At least three years' experience supporting Ethernet-related products, protocols or networks.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Confidence leading technical customer conversations.
  • The ability to explain complex technology clearly.
  • Experience presenting, demonstrating or training on technical products.
  • An independent and self-motivated approach.
  • Willingness to travel across EMEA for up to 50% of the role.
  • Degree-level technical education or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Unrestricted and ongoing right to work in the UK.

Useful but not essential

  • Experience in any of the following would be particularly valuable:
  • Network test and measurement.
  • Network emulation.
  • Telecoms infrastructure.
  • Timing and synchronisation.
  • PTP/IEEE 1588, SyncE or NTP.
  • Python or another scripting language.
  • Automated testing.
  • Technical demonstrations or proofs of concept.

Timing and synchronisation is a highly specialist area, so previous experience is not mandatory. Comprehensive product and domain training will be provided. The company is therefore open to an experienced, customer-facing network engineer who can learn the specialist technology and develop into the wider FAE remit.

Package and working arrangements

The anticipated package is £50,000-£70,000 OTE, comprising:

  • Contributory pension.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Life assurance and critical illness cover.
  • Flexible holidays.
  • Employee share incentive plan.
  • Specialist technical and product training.

The Belfast office is based in the city centre. The normal hybrid arrangement is Tuesday and Thursday in the office, with flexibility around travel and individual circumstances. Travel can reach 50% during busier periods but will fluctuate considerably throughout the year.
