MCS Group is partnering with Northern Ireland Water to recruit a dedicated, detail-oriented professional to join their Finance, Regulation & Commercial (FRC) directorate as a Capital & General Ledger Assistant. Based at Westland in Belfast, this vital role supports the daily operations of the financial accounts team during a period of major capital investment. This role is not for someone seeking a standard, predictable routine. It is for an adaptable finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is ready to support critical corporate operations and large-scale infrastructure projects.
Requirements
- Qualifications & Experience: A third-level qualification (HNC, HND, or degree) in a business, finance, or accounting discipline along with at least 1 year of experience in a finance environment, OR 4 years of experience working within a business, finance, or accounting environment.
- Availability: Ability to fully commit to a temporary contract of up to 12 months, working a standard 37.5-hour week across 5 days.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of monthly financial reporting processes, excellent proficiency with MS Office (especially Excel), the ability to deliver high accuracy under tight timescales, and exceptional communication skills.
Your Responsibilities
- Fixed Asset & Ledger Maintenance: Ensuring the application of up-to-date IFRS accounting policies when maintaining the Fixed Asset Register and Oracle with additions, disposals, and depreciation.
- Capital Project Commissioning: Independently commissioning NI Water capital projects by liaising with Management Accounts Business Partners and Field Managers, while analysing transactions and spend information on the CPMR system.
- Month-End & Year-End Processes: Managing reconciliations, preparing and posting capital journals, handling capitalised salaries and overhead allocations, and producing the monthly Fixed Asset Note to tight schedules.
- Audit & Reporting Support: Preparing high-quality management reports, providing information to external auditors during interim and year-end audits, and implementing recommendations as required.
- Systems & Team Collaboration: Participating in User Acceptance Testing for the Future Corporate Systems project, resolving transactional queries, and providing training or cover for other team members.
