This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional to play a key role in budgeting, financial reporting, management accounts, and continuous improvement within a busy Finance Directorate. MCS Group are proud to be partnering with an organisation in their search for an Accounting Technician to join their Finance team on a temporary basis. This role is ideal for an organised and analytical finance professional with experience in management accounting, financial reporting, and budget monitoring who enjoys working collaboratively to support strategic financial decision-making.

The Role:

  • Supporting the preparation of management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and financial reports
  • Assisting with month-end and year-end processes, including journals, reconciliations, and statutory accounts
  • Producing financial analysis and variance reports to support budget holders and senior management
  • Maintaining accurate financial records, finance systems, and general ledger structures
  • Supporting treasury management activities, cash flow monitoring, and payment processing
  • Preparing financial returns for external stakeholders and assisting with audit requirements
  • Ensuring compliance with financial regulations, governance frameworks, and GDPR requirements
  • Supporting finance system improvements, process development, and wider service improvement initiatives

The Person

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent), including English Language and Mathematics.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience working within a finance environment in a medium to large organisation.
  • Experience preparing journals and completing month-end reconciliations.
  • Experience using a computerised accounting system.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyse financial data and produce accurate reports.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to consistently deliver high-quality work.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide timely and accurate financial information.
  • A customer-focused approach with the ability to build positive working relationships.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and accounting software packages.

Location: Northern Ireland (Hybrid)

Contract: Full-time temporary assignment
