Wastewater Treatment Manager / Effluent Plant Manager

MCS Group is delighted to be working with a leading food manufacturing business in Northern Ireland to recruit a Wastewater Treatment Manager / Effluent Plant Manager. This is a pivotal role where you will be responsible for the efficient and compliant operation of the effluent treatment plant, ensuring the site meets environmental standards while driving cost efficiency and process improvements.

The Role

As Wastewater Treatment Manager / Effluent Plant Manager, you will:

  • Manage the day-to-day running of the effluent treatment plant, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and site standards.
  • Lead and develop a team of operators, maintenance staff, and laboratory analysts.
  • Monitor treatment processes, conduct sampling and analysis, and respond effectively to abnormalities.
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for effluent treatment.
  • Control and manage the plant budget, balancing compliance with cost efficiency.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance, calibrations, and repairs in collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Deliver continuous improvement initiatives in energy use, efficiency, and waste minimisation.
  • Investigate environmental incidents, prepare reports, and liaise with senior management and regulators.

The Person

You will bring:

  • Demonstrable experience managing wastewater or effluent treatment operations, ideally within food, FMCG, or process manufacturing.
  • Strong technical knowledge of effluent treatment and compliance parameters (COD, BOD, pH, TSS, heavy metals, etc.).
  • Proven people management skills with the ability to train, motivate, and lead a team.
  • A results-driven approach, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
