We're working exclusively with an established technology business that develops highly specialised software and hardware solutions used by global telecommunications and networking organisations.
Senior Software Developer (C++)
This is a senior engineering position where you'll take ownership of software from design through to implementation.
You'll be developing backend software in modern C++, working on products that emulate complex network environments and are used by customers around the world to test and validate critical infrastructure.
The team are looking for someone who enjoys asking questions, challenging ideas and improving solutions, rather than simply implementing requirements.
You'll also mentor junior developers and help shape engineering best practice across the team.
Alongside software development, you'll have the opportunity to support CI/CD and development infrastructure, making this a great role for someone who enjoys both software engineering and modern development practices.
- What You'll Be Doing
- Designing and developing backend software using modern C++
- Building new functionality from concept through to delivery
- Working on high-performance, low-level software running on Linux
- Contributing to architecture and technical design discussions
- Mentoring and supporting junior software engineers
- Improving software quality, performance and maintainability
- Supporting CI/CD pipelines and development tooling
- Working closely with Product, QA and Engineering to deliver robust solutions
What We're Looking For
You'll ideally bring
- Strong commercial experience with modern C++
- Solid object-oriented design and software engineering principles
- Experience designing and delivering software throughout the full development lifecycle
- Experience working within Linux environments
- The confidence to work independently and take ownership of technical decisions
- A collaborative approach and willingness to mentor others
Experience in any of the following would also be beneficial
- Low-level systems programming
- Networking or telecommunications
- Hardware interaction
- C programming
- DPDK
- Docker
- Jenkins
- CI/CD
- AWS or Azure
- Virtual Machines
Why Consider This Role?
This is the type of opportunity that's becoming increasingly difficult to find.
Rather than joining a large engineering function where responsibilities are heavily divided, you'll become part of a small, experienced team where your ideas genuinely influence the product and technical direction.
The business values engineers who think commercially, challenge assumptions and enjoy solving difficult technical problems.
There is also a clear path towards Technical Lead or Architecture positions as you continue to grow.
What's On Offer?
- Annual company performance bonus
- Hybrid working (2 days in the Stevenage office)
- 32 days annual leave, with additional long service leave
- Flexible working hours, including the opportunity for early Friday finishes
- Private healthcare
- 5% employer pension contribution
- Share incentive plan
- Income protection and life assurance
- Gym contribution
- Professional membership support
- Extensive learning and development, including access to thousands of technical courses and dedicated learning time each year
If you're an experienced C++ Software Engineer looking for a role where you'll have genuine ownership, work on technically challenging products and continue developing towards technical leadership, I'd be happy to tell you more.
