Do you want progression in your Biomedical Science career? We are recruiting on behalf of Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT) for a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist (Biochemistry) to support laboratory services across Altnagelvin Hospital, Derry/Londonderry and South West Acute Hospital, Enniskillen. This is an excellent opportunity to join an established Biochemistry team within the Western Trust, working closely with the Clinical Lead, BMS Service Manager, and multidisciplinary laboratory colleagues to deliver a high-quality, efficient, and UKAS-accredited diagnostic service supporting patient care across the region.
The role:
- Work in accordance with Trust and Laboratory policies to maintain UKAS accreditation, quality standards, and health & safety compliance.
- Perform, interpret, and understand routine and specialist Biochemistry analytical procedures, escalating issues appropriately.
- Support the development, implementation, and review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality management systems within Biochemistry.
- Supervise, support, and mentor junior Biomedical Scientists and support staff, contributing to training and competency assessment.
- Communicate effectively with clinical teams, laboratory colleagues, and service users to ensure timely and accurate results.
- Assist with workload management, prioritisation, documentation, and stock control in line with Trust procedures.
- Participate in clinical governance, audits, incident reporting, service improvement initiatives, and ongoing CPD.
The person:
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Post-qualification experience working within a Biochemistry laboratory.
- Ability to work across Derry/Londonderry and Enniskillen sites as required.
- Full, valid driving licence.
