Contract type: Full-time, permanent
Salary: Competitive
Working hours: 39 hours per week as well as overtime during mornings, evenings and weekends (weekends on a rota basis), which is a requirement for the role.

Overall objectives: We seek to appoint a Plant Fitter to join our busy and expanding team within McQuillan Quarries. This role will require someone with a 'can do' attitude, a commercial approach and demonstrable attention to detail. The successful candidate will report to the Quarry Management team and must be hardworking, reliable and possess excellent communication & interpersonal skills.
Key responsibilities:
- Work in full compliance with site health and safety rules, permits and safe systems of work
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and breakdown repairs on quarry plant and equipment
- Diagnose mechanical faults efficiently and implement safe, effective repairs to minimise downtime
- Carry out basic fabrication, welding and fitting work as required
- Assist with plant installations, upgrades and shutdown maintenance activities
- Correct use of PPE, isolation procedures and lock-off systems
- Safely use and maintain hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment and workshop machinery
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping in workshops and on site
- Work closely with quarry managers, supervisors and plant operators to support production
Essential Criteria:
- Proven experience in mechanical maintenance and repair of plant and equipment
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, hydraulics and pneumatics
- Ability to diagnose faults and carry out safe, effective breakdown and preventative maintenance
- Ability to carry out welding and fabrication work
- Strong commitment to working safely and following safe systems of work
- Thorough understanding of quarry and industrial health and safety requirements
- Experience with risk assessments, method statements and permit-to-work systems
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure
- High level of attention to detail and quality of workmanship
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including breakdowns, shutdowns and emergency call-outs
Desirable Criteria:
- Additional trade qualifications (e.g. welding, fabrication, hydraulics)
- Confined space, working at height, lifting operations, or LOLER awareness training
- Forklift, MEWP, or plant operator tickets
Due to the location of the Quarry a full driving licence and own transport is essential.
