Responsible to: Workshop Manager
Contract type: Full-time permanent
Salary: Competitive
Working hours: 39 hours per week as well as overtime during mornings, evenings and weekends (weekends on a rota basis), which is a requirement for the role.

Overall objectives: We seek to appoint a Garage Mechanic/Fitter to join our busy and expanding team within John McQuillan Contracts. This role will require someone with a 'can do' attitude, a commercial approach and demonstrable attention to detail. The successful candidate will report to the Workshop Manager and must be hardworking, reliable, and possess excellent communication & interpersonal skills.
Key responsibilities:
- Keep equipment available by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades and controlling corrosion;
- Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling major assemblies components or parts;
- Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems;
- Comply with legislative vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety and combustion control standards;
- Maintain vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing and painting;
- Contain costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options;
- Visiting sites to carry out repairs to plant on site.
Essential Criteria:
- Full Driving licence;
- NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or similar;
- Minimum of 3 years experience working on large plant and small tools;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Strong analytical/problem-solving and time management skills;
- Capable of working independently;
- Ability to work in a safe manner in a quarry and construction environment.
