Position Title: Underwriting Auditor - Corporate Underwriting

Reports to: Senior Audit Manager - London

Department: Corporate Underwriting

General Description

Arch’s Corporate Underwriting (“CU”) provides an underwriting audit function for Arch Insurance, primarily UK Regional, albeit with possible additional London Market involvement as required or as skillset allows. The purpose of this role is to provide underwriting audit support to CU leadership in these two categories of CU Audits for Arch Insurance UK and other Arch entities to a lesser extent.

CU – Corporate Underwriting Audit Role/Responsibility Description

Arch’s Corporate Underwriting (“CU”) Audit team is charged with evaluating the effectiveness of the underwriting process for all active Arch Insurance Group business units in the United States, Bermuda, Canada, Australia, and Europe. CU Audit – via reviews and reports – provides an objective evaluation for Arch senior leadership concerning the quality and alignment of the business units’ underwriting decisions to authority levels and guidelines while enabling change where necessary and enhancing underwriting processes and controls.

CU Audit Responsibilities:

  • Participate in underwriting audits/reviews of Arch Insurance business units (predominantly UK Regional) and delegated authority programs, including scheduling and account selection.
  • Perform underwriting file reviews by measuring how well Arch’s Business Units and delegated authority programs adhere to corporate and business unit rules and protocols - including qualitative and procedural components such as file documentation, account analysis/selection, and use of pricing tools.
  • Assist - and where necessary lead - the collecting, processing and summarising audit information and the identification of trends.
  • Identify trends in business units to assess relative risks in order to determine audit scope required.
  • Co-ordinate audits with other company monitoring functions (Compliance, Internal Audit, Claims) as needed, to support audit process.
  • Assist Underwriting Units in the planning and implementation of appropriate underwriting controls including documentation.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years underwriting or claims experience in one or a number of key Arch UK Regional classes of Property or Casualty Underwriting. Additionally, experience with other lines and underwriting audit experience would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Business and technical underwriting acumen with high attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Sound independent judgment.
  • Ability to influence colleagues outside the team toward achievement of mutual goals.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across interdisciplinary teams that are geographically dispersed.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally as agreed and required.
