Position summary: The Technical Claims Specialist will provide technical support, analytical insight, and quality assurance across a broad panel of MGAs. The role assists with claim referrals, audits, MI preparation, and technical projects to ensure claims are handled in line with internal expectations, regulatory frameworks, and our delegated authority agreements. This is a hands-on role working in a team in delivering consistent technical governance, improving MGA performance, and ensuring strong customer outcomes. It offers the opportunity to engage directly with MGA partners, Reinsurers, Law Firms and contribute to technical best practice initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Support & Governance
- Assist with technical and regulatory oversight of motor claims handled under delegated authority.
- Support the execution of file audits and thematic reviews.
- Help identify technical inconsistencies, areas of leakage, and potential improvement opportunities.
- Contribute to reviewing reserving adequacy and settlement strategy on selected claims.
- Prepare initial audit findings and assist in drafting recommendations.
- MGA Relationship Support
- Act as a supporting point of contact for MGAs and Third Party Administrators on technical claims matters.
- Assist with onboarding processes for new MGAs, including documentation reviews and technical due diligence.
- Support the monitoring of MGA performance plans and escalate issues where appropriate.
- Attend joint settlement meetings, mediations, or reviews as part of ongoing technical development.
- Claims Strategy & Best Practice
- Contribute to developing technical guidance, best practice documents, and training materials.
- Assist with research into emerging risks, legal changes, and market trends.
- Support the implementation of governance improvements and claims process enhancements.
- Reporting & Performance Monitoring
- Assist in producing regular MI packs, dashboards, and summary reports for claims performance.
- Support performance trend analysis, loss ratio reviews, and portfolio insights in collaboration with underwriting and actuarial colleagues.
- Help prepare materials for technical committees and internal performance reviews.
- Regulatory & Compliance
- Help maintain accurate delegated claims authority documentation and audit trails.
- Support compliance checks such as complaint route cause analysis and ensure MGAs are aligned with regulatory standards, including Consumer Duty.
- Assist in preparing materials for internal audit or regulatory submissions.
Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Strong experience in UK motor claims handling, ideally within insurer or MGA environments. A minimum of 5 years experience is preferable.
- Good technical knowledge across bodily injury, credit hire, or fraud (specialist in at least one area beneficial).
- Understanding of delegated authority environments or outsourced claims models.
- Analytical mindset with confidence handling MI and identifying technical trends.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to draft clear reports and interact with external stakeholders.
- Organised, proactive, and comfortable working with limited supervision on defined tasks.
- Progress toward relevant insurance qualifications preferred (Cert CII / Dip CII).
- Desire to undertake external-facing work, attend meetings, and develop client-relationship skills.
- Must be willing to travel.
- Strong work ethic, initiative, and willingness to develop technical capability.
