CU Audit – via consultative reviews and reports – provides an objective, 2nd line of defense evaluation to Arch senior leadership as to the quality of the business units’ and delegated authority partners’ underwriting decisions in the management of their portfolios along with validating adherence to guidelines and authority levels, suggesting change where necessary and enhancing underwriting processes and controls.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, or support the SVP CUA, in the auditing of all P&C underwriting units based in Australia, Bermuda, Europe, UK, and London Market including Lloyd’s, often aided by U.S.-based remote auditors.
  • Manage a Senior Audit Manager and his team of seasoned domestic UK-focused auditors.
  • Represent CUA to senior Arch leadership or regulators as required.
  • Plan, organize, participate, and present underwriting audit/review findings of Arch Insurance International Business Units and delegated authority programs to senior management.
  • Perform underwriting file reviews by measuring how well Arch’s Business Units and delegated authority programs adhere to corporate and business unit rules and protocols - including qualitative and procedural components such as file documentation, account analysis/selection, and use of pricing tools.
  • Oversee the CUA UK Regions Senior Audit Manager and team.
  • Co-ordinate audits with other company monitoring functions (Compliance, Internal Audit, Claims, Finance, etc.) as needed, to support a combined assurance process.
  • Assist the business units audited in implementing the agreed actions emanating from the audits (as needed).
  • Assist Underwriting Units in the planning and implementation of appropriate underwriting controls including documentation.
  • Participate and represent CUA in governance-related meetings with the Audit Committee, Arch International’s senior management, internal audit, and compliance as requested, and potentially with regulators as required.
  • Support, as requested and time allows, Business Unit 1st line of defense/walk through reviews of delegated authority cover holders.
  • Support, as requested and time allows, underwriting audits/reviews of Arch Insurance North America.

Role Requirements:

  • Senior management underwriting experience, ideally with Lloyd’s or overseas experience, in one or a number of key Arch lines of business such as Casualty, Professional Indemnity, Directors & Officers or Energy.
  • Experience with other lines of business and underwriting audit experience would be beneficial but not essential as the right candidate would be trained.
  • Additional European language proficiency (French, German, Spanish, or Italian) would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Business leadership along with technical underwriting acumen with high attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and strong analytical skills.
  • A proven history of collaboration and an ability to influence colleagues outside the team toward achievement of mutual goals.
