Role Summary and Purpose
We are seeking a detail-oriented, pragmatic and collaborative Legal Counsel to serve as a trusted legal advisor to Arch Insurance International. This role covers our operations across the UK, Europe (including France, Spain, the Netherlands, and Italy), Bermuda, and Australia. The role is broad and dynamic, evolving with the needs of the business, and includes:
- Reviewing and negotiating a wide range of corporate, insurance and commercial contracts
- Providing legal advice and support on strategic transactions and projects
- Assisting with coverage issues, drafting avoidances, litigation and disputes
The ideal candidate will have a strong insurance background (non-contentious or contentious) with a good understanding of the insurance market and Lloyd’s. We are looking for an individual with a keen interest in the utilisation of AI to streamline the provision of legal services.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Review, advise on, draft, and negotiate a wide variety of legal agreements, including broker remuneration/distribution agreements, TOBAs, binding authority agreements, third-party administrator (TPA) agreements, consortium agreements, and supplier/vendor contracts
- Advise on policy interpretation and coverage issues; draft policy declinatures and avoidances
- Provide legal support on advisory matters, corporate initiatives (experience with Lloyd’s Coming into Line (CIL) process advantageous but not essential), M&A transactions and litigation
- Pre-emptively manage and mitigate legal risks throughout the business and keep up to date with legal developments that directly affect our operations
- Log risk events in accordance with internal policies
- Identify and implement process improvements, including with the use of AI and other technologies
- Review and update legal policies and procedures, and provide training to the business
- Assist with ad-hoc queries and requests for information from the business
- Draft departmental communications
- Contribute to the Legal department's knowledge base by updating precedents, forms, and process documentation
- Monitor deadlines and key dates for legal matters, ensuring timely follow-up and completion of tasks
- Collaborate with legal counterparts in other jurisdictions

Qualifications
- Qualified solicitor with 2 to 5 years PQE
