What you will be doing
Reporting to the appropriate Operations Director, the Project Director is responsible primarily for managing all site based activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, to the required standard and to the complete satisfaction of the Client.
As Project Director you will be expected to:
- Represent the business interests both internally and externally
- Ensure health, safety, environment, quality standards, operating processes, Company policies and all legislative requirements are understood, implemented and adhered to throughout the team at all times
- Lead and manage the operational team, ensuring it is adequately resourced to achieve Company targets and maintain high levels of commitment and morale
- Develop and maintain close relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors to anticipate or identify any issues and resolve them
- Continuously improve client experience and obtain information to obtain repeat and negotiated business
- Maintain a regular review of the performance of the team, and prepare comprehensive business reports for the Operations Review Meetings and for the board
- Direct oversight and management of Projects budget and expenditure
- Achieve stated targets and standards for Projects financial performance
- Undertake regular site visits and attend monthly CVR project reviews, reviewing progress and financial performance
- Ensure that any live projects with significant delivery risk are escalated to the Construction Director and an action plan is agreed, implemented and monitored
- Monitor all significant project issues and correspondence to ensure that all necessary contractual processes have been observed
- Where appropriate, assist with business development activities and manage bid or negotiation process to win new business
- Ensure the use of Company preferred subcontractors and suppliers to improve SHEQ and project delivery standards
- Support the development of the Company's culture through effective communication and role modelling of the Company's vision, values and behaviours
- Contribute to strategic planning and decision making to support the Company's overall performance
- Expand our Sub-Contractor supply chain with the introduction of new companies who deliver the highest standards
- Delivering regional workshops / focus groups with the supply chain to emphasize continuous improvement and co-operation
- Ensuring the Company as an Associate Member on the Considerate Contracts Scheme continues to achieve the highest standards
- Aiding the Company to ensure that all CSR targets are endorsed and achieved
What We're Looking For
The successful Project Director will possess the following skills and experience:
- Extensive Construction sector knowledge and experience
- Prior leadership experience with technically challenging projects and diverse teams
- Ability to lead on projects of varying size and scale
- Strong understanding of Design & Build, JCT and NEC contracts
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to influence, manage, create and maintain relationships
- Ability to interact and take leadership control of external client and consultant teams
- Experience of construction project planning to provide clear strategy
- Good business accuracy both operationally and commercially focused
- Experienced in managing diverse stakeholders
- Good team player – keeping colleagues informed and up to date
