Design Coordinator in London

McLaughlin & Harvey are one of the leading Building and Civil Engineering Contractors operating throughout the UK and Ireland. We are seeking to recruit an experienced Design Coordinator to join the team.

Responsibilities

• Be an integral part of the Design Management Function, reporting to the Design Director with a primary focus on Design Management Activities and supporting our Design Management Team.
• Expand on your existing design experience and core skills associated with managing Design Deliverables and Change Control Schedules.
• Develop additional responsibilities including preparation of Design Responsibility Matrices, appraisals of individual consultant Scope of Services, Design Risk and Mitigation.
• Participate in and chair Design Coordination Meetings, Workshops and Reporting.
• Attend design team meetings to co-ordinate architects, engineers and sub-contractor information.
• Assist the design manager in producing and issuing accurate meeting minutes, ensuring actions are closed out within agreed timescales.
• Review design information to ensure compliance with the ER’s and contract information.
• Assist with drawings reviews to identify clashes, errors, omissions, issuing comments back to the design team / sub-contractors.
• Provide support to Design Manager and the operations team with all aspects of the design, co-ordination, sub-contractor design packages and change control processes.
• Identify, review and implement value engineering opportunities and the change control process.
• Track the submission of information to satisfy Building Control compliance and pre-commence planning conditions.
• Record, track and close out comments/queries that arise when submitting Design information to the client team.
• Ensure all drawings are distributed to the design team and sub-contractors ensuring the flow of information is completed within the design and procurement programme.
• Report design progress to the design manager using View Point and CDE platforms.

Qualifications

• Recognised Design or Construction related qualification and/or a proven track record of working as a Design Coordinator within the construction industry.
• Ability to work to meet project time and cost constraints.
• In-depth knowledge of design process and detailed construction design at both preconstruction and construction phases of projects.
• Demonstrate ability as a design coordinator working within the construction industry.
• Good understanding of standard document control processes, manage change control processes, establish design responsibilities with design consultants, and programme design to suit main construction programme and activities.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Experience in the use of extranet based document management systems.
• Good commercial and technical awareness.
