This is an exciting opportunity for a Reliability Engineer to join our Composites Technology Centre in Sheffield on a permanent basis. This is an indirect role responsible for improving equipment reliability, reducing unplanned downtime, and delivering long-term solutions to recurring plant and equipment issues. You will play a key role in developing and implementing proactive maintenance strategies, including preventative, predictive, and condition-based maintenance approaches.
You will work closely with maintenance, production, engineering, project, and operational teams to analyse equipment performance, identify failure trends, and deliver structured root cause analysis. Through this, you will implement engineering improvements that enhance safety, efficiency, reliability, and overall asset performance. You will also support the introduction of new equipment and production assets, ensuring reliability, maintainability, safety, and lifecycle performance are embedded from initial specification and supplier engagement through to installation, commissioning, handover, and ongoing operation.
The Reliability Engineer is responsible for driving improvements in asset reliability, equipment performance, and maintenance effectiveness across site operations. You will act as the subject matter expert for reliability, using CMMS data and structured engineering analysis to identify failure trends, eliminate recurring issues, and develop long-term solutions. Working closely with maintenance, production, engineering, OEMs, and suppliers, you will lead reliability improvement activities, support breakdown response, and enhance maintenance strategies including preventative, predictive, and condition-based approaches. You will also play a key role in new equipment introduction, ensuring reliability, maintainability, and lifecycle performance are embedded from specification through to commissioning and operational handover, while ensuring all technical documentation and improvement activities are accurately recorded and controlled.
What You'll Bring
- Identify, analyse, and resolve recurring equipment reliability issues using structured root cause analysis techniques.
- Support maintenance and production teams during breakdown events, providing technical expertise to restore equipment and prevent recurrence.
- Analyse CMMS data, downtime trends, and asset performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
- Develop and optimise preventative, predictive, and condition-based maintenance strategies aligned to asset criticality and operational needs.
- Lead and support reliability improvement projects from concept through to implementation, validation, and sustainment.
- Act as CMMS subject matter expert, ensuring accurate data integrity and effective use for reliability and maintenance strategy development.
- Collaborate with OEMs, suppliers, contractors, and internal teams to improve equipment reliability and performance.
- Support the introduction of new assets, including specification, commissioning, maintenance strategy development, and critical spares definition.
- Ensure all reliability activities, engineering changes, and technical documentation are accurately recorded, controlled, and maintained.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on improving equipment uptime, performance, and maintenance effectiveness.
- Contribute to the development of best practice maintenance standards and asset care strategies across site operations.
- Provide technical input into failure investigations, equipment upgrades, and engineering modifications.
- Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
Basic Qualifications & Experience
- Foundation Degree, HND, or Level 5 qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Strong multi-skilled background in electrical and mechanical engineering disciplines.
- Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Experience working with hydraulic systems.
- Strong ability to interpret and fault-find using electrical, mechanical, and fluid power schematic drawings.
- Understanding of machinery safety regulations and compliance requirements.
- Working knowledge of reliability engineering tools and techniques, including RCA, FMEA, RCM, FTA, ETA, Weibull analysis, MTBF/MTTR, OEE, Pareto analysis, asset criticality, and condition-based maintenance methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree (BEng) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience using Siemens TIA Portal for PLC fault finding and diagnostics (Ladder Logic and FBD).
