We are recruiting for a Lead Digital Modeller to join our fantastic Design Team in Bicester, Oxfordshire. Reporting to Head of Digital Design, you will be responsible for Digital Design modelling/surfacing from early concept Design and sketch through to Design Surface freeze for Production tool release. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in digital modelling and the Automotive Design process. With experience working closely with both the creative and engineering teams. As a lead modeller you will take responsibility for commodity/zonal surface delivery and will have a proven track record in managing teams of modellers and offsite suppliers. You should be highly creative, detail-oriented, and able to work collaboratively with cross functional teams.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the creation of exterior/Interior digital models
- Collaborate closely with both internal and external teams, ensuring that the McLaren Design Vision and brand values are represented.
- Implement & promote new techniques that advance digital modelling capabilities.
- Ensure that the company stays at the forefront of industry trends and tools.
- Work collaboratively with all design functions.
- Follow internal workflows and processes in accordance with company and departmental procedure guidelines.
- Promote a high digital modelling standard to achieve key deliverables.
- Lead by example with the McLaren design core values.
- Assess key deliverables and communicate deadlines to the team.
- Plan workload deliverables and delegate work to the team to ensure an efficient work stream.
- Support both design and engineering technical reviews.
- Maintain and manage the master datasets that track the digital assets being created, ensuring the accuracy of models in collaboration with Creative Design, Studio Engineering, CMF & Hard/Clay Modelling teams.
- Deliver master datasets on multiple projects, adhering to deadlines and delivering superior digital assets punctually.
- Collaborate closely with customers, understanding their vision and requirements and iterating based on feedback to surpass expectations.
Qualifications
- High level of Automotive Design knowledge with experience delivering digital models from concept through to production surfacing.
- Proficient in presenting digital data to seniors.
- Experienced in Class-A modelling delivering final production A-class geometry/surfaces.
- Experience in concept modelling delivering fast efficient design ideation study models for various outputs (reviews digital and physical).
- Experience in delivering high-quality design assets using surface development tools.
- Working knowledge of different modelling techniques including Nurbs, SubD/Poly, and Bezier.
- To work in a transparent and professional manner, supporting the relevant programme, liaising with all levels throughout design and across all disciplines, to deliver the required geometry and multiple points in time relative to gateways.
- Experience of supporting software and tools used within the Design environment including Program Life cycle Management systems would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of engineering feasibility constraints and manufacturing methods that affect the Aesthetic Design of a vehicle.
