Purpose of the Role: To prepare, assemble, and deliver tooling components, machined patterns, Rohacell and insert-blocked cores, additive-manufactured parts, and supporting materials required for downstream production of F1 composite components. The role provides hands-on support to the Composite Machining team to ensure efficient, reliable, and high-quality operations.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Polish, assemble, and prepare mould tools, fixtures, patterns, and programme-specific components to design standards.
- Prepare, block-up, bond, and hand-finish tooling materials (e.g. Rohacell, foam cores, inserts) prior to machining.
- Support CNC machining operations under supervision, including loading/unloading, fixturing, and basic tool checks.
- Prepare machining stock and assist with setup optimisation to improve workflow and throughput.
- Safely handle, label, and organise machined parts, tooling, and components.
- Support day-to-day operation of 3D printing equipment, including build preparation, material handling, and basic maintenance.
- Manage, monitor, and replenish raw material and consumable stock, including controlled flammable materials.
- Conduct basic inspection of machined and printed parts and liaise with Quality on calibration and measurement equipment.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, 3S, TPM, and housekeeping standards, while supporting technicians and communicating progress and issues.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- Strong understanding of engineering workshop practices.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Experience in tooling/fixture assembly and use of hand and bench tools.
- Experience working with Rohacell, foam cores, bonding processes, and insert preparation.
- Basic experience of machining or machine-shop environments.
- Familiarity with 3D printing processes (SLA, FDM, SLS, etc.) advantageous.
- Experience in aluminium mould polishing and assembly.
- Computer literate with knowledge of 3DX, CAD viewers, or MRP systems such as Javelin.
- Forklift licence desirable.
