Overview
In this role you support the Aerothermal team to deliver Powertrain Cooling and Heat Management performance for McLaren road cars. You work closely with design, vehicle engineering and programme teams to define requirements, develop systems and validate performance across 1D and CFD methodologies. The role emphasizes collaboration, continuous improvement of simulation and testing methods, and integration of thermal performance into the overall vehicle experience. Responsibilities
- Develop Powertrain Cooling and Heat Management attributes and systems for vehicle programmes, aiming for target delivery within time and investment constraints
- Utilise 1D simulation, CFD, rig testing and vehicle evaluation to meet performance targets
- Define thermal software control strategies and perform calibration and certification testing
- Communicate progress and issues to attribute leads, programme management, and Chief Engineer; participate in reviews to ensure targets are met
- Define Design Verification Plan activities with Vehicle Development to ensure successful testing and sign-off
- Contribute to continuous improvement of Aerothermal development processes (CFD, 1D modelling, rig and vehicle testing) to improve prediction accuracy and efficiency
Key requirements
- First-rate Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering or Science degree
- Strong understanding of heat transfer and fluid mechanics
- Knowledge of powertrain cooling and thermal management systems
- Experience with 1D system simulation tools (AMESim, GT-SUITE or MATLAB/Simulink advantageous)
- Experience in CFD and aerodynamic/thermal simulation techniques advantageous
- Ability to interpret complex technical data and translate into robust engineering solutions
- Creativity to develop ideas from first principles to refined design
