Purpose of the Role:
To contribute to the development of all aspects of our Driver in the Loop (DIL) Simulators, delivering continuous improvement and major upgrade projects to maintain our position as a leader in the field.
Role Dimensions:
The role sits within the Simulator Development Group. The work is predominantly project-based and requires collaboration with the other teams in Vehicle Performance, as well as Control Systems, Design and Race Engineering.
Principal Accountabilities:
Develop and correlate simulation models of the DIL simulator motion system.
Support the implementation and testing of motion controller and cueing algorithms updates.
Contribute to research into human factors to improve understanding of the driver as control system.
Contribute to simulator objective and subjective correlation (motion, visuals, haptics, audio, driver environment, system performance, vehicle sub-system models).
Support the development of offline simulation tools to aid correlation and performance.
Assist with the development and commissioning of motion system upgrades.
Propose innovative technical concepts & development opportunities.
Job requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Outstanding academic background qualified to postgraduate level or equivalent capability in Mechanical Engineering, Control Engineering or a related discipline.
Ability to self-start & work independently, as well as collaboratively.
Ability to quickly understand complex problems and identify and implement solutions.
Ability to work to deadlines on a variety of timescales and balance workload between projects.
Ability to clearly and concisely communicate technical information.
Experience developing simulators within Formula 1 or high level motorsport.
Technical knowledge of control systems and mechatronics.
Experience in using and developing models in Matlab / Simulink and/or C++.
Experience of working with real-time hardware interfaces (e.g. NI / Beckhoff TwinCAT / dSpace).
Broad awareness of simulator & systems developments across industry and academia.
Industrial or research experience in vehicle dynamics or human factors.
Understanding of vehicle sub-system correlation (tyres, aero, suspension, power unit)
