Purpose of the Role
The HR Advisor plays a key role in shaping a positive and inclusive employee experience by providing proactive, people-focused support across the business. This role works closely with line managers to deliver expert, front-line guidance on a wide range of people matters, fostering a culture of trust, growth, and high performance. As a hands-on and collaborative member of the team, the HR Advisor works alongside the HR Director and key stakeholders to drive improvements in people practices, operational effectiveness, and employee wellbeing.
Key responsibilities
HR Advisory
- With the support of the HR Director, provide thoughtful, solutions-oriented guidance on employee relations matters, including performance development, organisational change, and transitions such as redundancies and TUPE, ensuring outcomes are fair, transparent, and aligned with our values while supporting both people and business continuity.
- Collaborate with managers and the HR Director to proactively identify organisational needs and drive change initiatives that support growth, agility, and long-term impact.
- Support managers to deliver high-impact people practices by providing day-to-day coaching, mentoring, and guidance across all aspects of team development.
- Provide clear, consistent advice and guidance on HR policies and employment law to promote best practice and support employee retention.
- Partner with the HR Director on various HR projects and initiatives.
- Support performance management, salary reviews, promotions, and bonus cycles.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of HR processes and service delivery, using employee feedback and data insights to inform decisions.
Operational HR
- Lead the onboarding process from offer acceptance to Day 1, including right-to-work checks and induction coordination, to ensure a smooth and engaging start for all new joiners.
- Manage the offboarding process, tracking fixed-term and contractor end dates, coordinating exit steps, and ensuring timely communication with employees and managers.
- Coordinate family leave cases, providing clear guidance and support to employees and managers throughout the process.
- Oversee Skilled Worker Visa sponsorships, acting as a Level 1 user and liaising directly with immigration advisors to ensure compliance and a seamless experience for international hires.
- Provide HR data and analytics to support business needs, including preparing data for statutory reports such as the Gender Pay Gap report.
- Collaborate with the Payroll and HR Assistant to ensure accurate employee data is maintained in the HRIS and personnel records.
- Champion inclusive practices and contribute to diversity and equity efforts across the employee lifecycle.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience as a generalist HR professional, advising on a wide range of HR and employment law matters.
- Strong understanding of organisational restructuring and change management.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills.
- Up-to-date knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR best practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience in a technology or fast-paced business environment is advantageous.
- CIPD Level 5 qualification (or working towards) is desirable.
