The team at MCL Fire has grown by almost 50% within the last 24 months, and we have an opportunity for you to help us to continue that success by joining as a Fire Extinguisher Technician in the Derry/Londonderry area. This role will provide full training to the successful candidate.
Responsibilities
- Service and maintain fire safety equipment for our public and private sector clients, in line with the relevant standards.
- Completing paperwork and providing certification for client premises.
- Managing / Attending to Call Out Requests in the area.
- Supply and install new portable firefighting equipment / signage in client premises.
- Attend staff meetings / toolbox talks, undertake staff training / courses as deemed necessary to perform the Fire Safety Technician role and to enhance your skill set and experience.
Duties
- Understand the classifications of fire and the appropriate extinguishers and travel distances in line with the appropriate standards.
- Weighing different types of extinguishers.
- Changing cartridges in extinguishers.
- Safely changing O-Rings on different types of extinguishers.
- Changing tamper seals on extinguishers.
- Appropriately label extinguishers and complete the service label (including YOM, Due Test, Service Type and Equipment Numbering).
- Replacing serviceable parts e.g. Horns.
- Correctly installing signs with silicone on walls, stands and cabinets, including high level location signs.
- Completing discharge test and refills, including the time frames for DTRs.
- Safely using the SDS drill.
- Safely using a drill driver and or impact driver.
- Safely mounting equipment on block and concrete (at the correct height with the correct fittings).
- Safely mounting equipment on plasterboard (using plasterboard fittings and backboards).
- Safely adding stands, including the mandatory use of KIT51 straps on flat pack stands.
- Safely installing cabinets at level and understanding the correct cabinets for the type of extinguisher sizes.
- Commission new equipment.
- Safely replacing automatic powders.
- Inspecting fire hose reels.
- Complete van checks.
- Use the app correctly for travelling to and arriving at site.
- Use the app correctly for adding new equipment and locations.
- Request stock transfers correctly.
- Add notes to the job via the app.
- Create any follow up visits on the app as necessary.
- Ensure job is signed off on app by the customer.
- Complete timesheets correctly.
