Financial Controller/Company Accountant

Location: Belfast

Salary: £50-55k neg

Our fast-growing SME client, privately owned and trading for many years, is looking to bring their full financial control in-house. Currently, their accountant prepares quarterly management accounts, and a small team of administrators/finance staff prepare SL and PL on-site.

The sector they work in is Engineering, and they have an excellent reputation in both the public and private sectors.

The entrepreneur who set up and grew the business to approximately £6.5m is a dynamic individual who wants someone to work as part of the leadership team to help grow the business. This newly created role will be central in assisting with commercial decisions and providing strong financial analysis.

Key duties

  1. Manage 2–3 finance staff
  2. Prepare financial accounts using Sage
  3. Develop internal controls and procedures for internal improvements
  4. Work closely with external accountants during the initial handover, then manage the function in-house
  5. Prepare management accounts, including KPI reports, project analysis, budgets, forecasting, and labour costs
  6. Liaise with financial institutions and build relationships with banks and external advisors
  7. Conduct contract reviews and costings
  8. Provide decision support to the leadership team

The ideal person

  • Able to work independently with extensive experience supporting a growing business financially
  • Fully qualified accountant or qualified by experience with a strong track record
  • Excellent IT skills and embrace technology
  • Proactive approach and willing to engage with the wider business to add value
