Your Impact
You will join the Partner Tax Group, a critical team responsible for ensuring the tax-efficient, accurate, and seamless delivery of awards to the firm's global Partner Group. This group is comprised of over 3,000 senior employees across approximately 70 countries who jointly own the firm. To achieve this, the team works in highly collaborative partnerships with key internal departments—including Payroll, Benefits, Legal, HR, Accounting, and Finance—as well as external advisors.
Your primary focus will be on the United States, with opportunity to expand to a diverse portfolio of countries. Working alongside an experienced Director and Manager, you will help design, implement, and oversee strategic structures that deliver Partner awards tax-efficiently while strictly aligning with the firm’s global tax risk standards.
You will serve as a key point of contact for Partners regarding their award delivery. This involves handling specific country-level requirements, managing day-to-day interactions, and efficiently addressing tax-related inquiries. You will collaborate closely with the Corporate Tax, Employment Tax, and Mobility Tax groups to ensure that global strategies are effectively executed and maintained.
You will build and maintain strong internal partnerships with local office Finance teams and central corporate support functions (including Legal, Treasury, Benefits, and Finance) to guarantee the smooth, planned execution of all award deliveries. You will actively coordinate and support local tax audits concerning Partner awards and tax delivery. Additionally, you will provide critical technical assistance and project support on strategic, multi-country initiatives across the wider tax function.
Your work is vital in supporting McKinsey’s global Partner population. You will ensure excellent advisory support and service to our Partners, help mitigate individual tax risks across global operations, and work closely with various stakeholders to deliver exceptional tax expertise to the wider firm.
Your Qualifications and Skills
Educational Background: A strong academic record, including a recognized tax or accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ATT, CTA), or a recognized US tax qualification (EA, CPA).
Experience: 7+ years of experience in US Federal and State personal taxes. This includes experience managing the personal tax affairs of US executives (domestic or mobile) and related social tax/payroll withholding issues. Background can be from practice or in-house at a large multinational corporation. Experience with high-net-worth individuals is highly preferred.
Expertise: Solid experience in payroll withholding matters for US resident Partners, including State taxes in both resident and non-resident States. Detailed understanding of individual tax taxes in the US and working knowledge of US tax return information.
Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to design and implement practical tax operational processes.
