Your Growth
You will work as part of the Firm\’s global Risk Operations and Experience (ROX) team. The team is responsible for enabling the Firm’s technology mission while managing risks to products, data, and AI. We deliver integrated technology and change solutions for the Risk function and the Firm.
Your Impact
As a Product Risk Manager, you will be responsible for providing integrative, strategic risk management advice to product owners and builders across our practices, functions, and industries. You will work hand in hand with Practice and Function leadership to ensure that the products and solutions being developed meet McKinsey’s high bar for risk management and assurance.
In this role, you will lead the evaluation and triage of higher-risk and complex products, as well as interface with cross-functional Legal, Risk, and Compliance colleagues to ensure appropriate risk review and oversight according to Firm policies and regulations. You will also lead and execute projects to improve the product risk process and collaborate with key stakeholders needed to move the product risk assessment program forward, partnering closely with the Associate Director, Product Risk.
The successful candidate will combine a deep risk-ownership mindset, strong technology expertise, and outstanding judgment to manage complex and time-critical issues and act as a peer counselor and advisor to teams seeking to build secure products. The goal of your work will be to make it as simple and clear as possible for product teams to understand risk requirements, complete risk reviews, and implement controls in products to reduce the risk of mis-development or misuse of products.
You will provide guidance, mentorship, and support to ROX team members of all levels of seniority, sharing knowledge and growing skills, as well as help to shape the team agenda and advise team members on recommended solutions. You will mentor and apprentice more junior colleagues, providing developmental support and guidance, and driving the year-end evaluation process for direct reports.
Your qualifications and skills
- University degree and excellent academic record; advanced degree or certifications preferred.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in risk management and product management, technology, or transformation/change management. Working knowledge of GenAI, product development lifecycle, or user experience is highly recommended. Familiarity with the Firm’s culture and how to drive change is a plus.
- Relevant experience leading and executing projects as part of a broader program to launch an enterprise-wide program or capability.
- Demonstrated success in creating policies or standards, defining risks and requirements, assessing risk of products, managing escalations, implementing controls to remediate risks, rolling out change management/transformation, and running compliance and consequence management.
- Expertise in product-related risks (i.e., regulations, cybersecurity, data) and up-to-date knowledge of emerging risks (e.g., GenAI).
- Self-motivated and creative thinker, willing to challenge and be challenged to learn. Excited by learning new topics and different problem-solving approaches.
- Excellent team collaboration and works well in dynamic environments to quickly adapt to changes in emerging risks and priorities.
- Sensitivity to and discretion in handling confidential information.
