The highly competitive US generic pharmaceutical sector continues to challenge every element of the supply chain. In this constantly changing environment, patients can be served through multiple channels in new and different ways, whilst those that dispense prescriptions, the wholesale distributors that supply them and manufacturers all have to react and respond to how the sector is evolving, which is also heavily influenced by payers, regulatory bodies and federal and state law. To succeed in this environment requires organisations to adapt and change and, at ClarusONE, we play a key role in working alongside multiple stakeholders to deliver the most efficient supply chain model whilst generating value for our Members, their customers and patients through innovative sourcing solutions.

The Data Engineer is primarily responsible for data pipeline creation, design and maintenance in support of all business functions. This position is responsible for monitoring and supporting our production environment, building and testing new data pipelines in a modern data warehousing landscape and ensuring that sensitive data is properly protected.

Responsibilities
  • Work across the development lifecycle from prototyping to delivering production data solutions and resolving data issues with business users.
  • Provide data expertise and effectively support the ongoing demand for new or enhanced data sets, aligned to the architecture plan and strategic direction of the data environment.
  • Execute the development of data ingestion and transformation pipelines using multiple technologies (SQL, Snowflake, Python, DBT/Astronomer, APIs, etc.) and leverage agile methodologies.
  • Support strategic initiatives; design, build and support data solutions conducive to business insights, reporting and analytics.
  • Apply data engineering best practices and tools to create and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes.
  • Apply good coding standards and principles including logging and unit testing to the pipelines created.
  • Support the production data warehouse, communicate issues promptly to stakeholders and work to address them.
  • Present and defend complex ideas and recommendations to various levels within the organisation.
  • Collaborate with all team members to problem-solve and create solutions.
  • Act as an advocate and champion of the ClarusONE data and information assets.
  • Recommend process changes to achieve minimal error rates, track errors and improve process efficiencies.

(The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed in this job. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties.)

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree level or above.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a data-centric function.
  • Experience in the healthcare field or a similarly highly regulated environment (sales, purchasing or distribution) preferred, though not required.
Knowledge & Skills – Essential
  • Experience building data ingestion and transformation pipelines.
  • Experience working within a structured development and release environment (e.g. peer review, coding standards, CI/CD release processes).
  • Experience with testing and QA in a data context.
  • Strong coding skills, particularly in SQL and Python.
  • Experience with database technologies and concepts (Snowflake, Databricks or other cloud-based data warehouses) and data transformation processes (using DBT, Airflow an advantage).
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • 3 years experience in a data-centric function.
  • Willingness to develop new technical skills and become an SME for new technologies adopted by the business.
