We are seeking an enthusiastic, team‑orientated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our team at McKenzie Vets on a full‑time basis. McKenzie Vets is a long established, single‑site small animal practice in Alexandria with a reputation for the highest standard of care for our patients. It is close to Loch Lomond National Park but also commutable from Glasgow and Stirling. We have Cat Friendly Silver status and have achieved GP in Practice Standards Scheme.

We are “small but mighty” with 3 consulting rooms, a dedicated theatre, fully equipped lab, digital and dental x‑ray, ultrasound, multiparameter, laser and acupuncture. Our best asset is the fantastic team of vets, nurses and reception staff. We currently have 3 RVNs (two of which are certificate holders), 1 SVN and a VCA and we are looking for someone to join us for a year while our Head Nurse is on maternity leave. We have 5 vets, 2 currently studying towards certificates in surgery and cardiology. We have a friendly team who believes in having fun and supporting each other and we welcome new ideas, always forward‑thinking in ways to provide the best possible care for our patients.

As a Registered Veterinary Nurse, you will be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering high‑quality nursing care to patients while supporting excellent client experiences. You’ll work collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and the wider practice team, taking responsibility for the nursing care of a range of first‑opinion cases, contributing to clinical standards, and supporting the ongoing development of patient care within the practice.

We are ideally seeking an experienced RVN to join us on a full‑time basis, working 40 hours per week across four days, along with a fair share of Saturday mornings (1 in 4). Our typical weekday shifts run between 8:00 am and 6:30 pm, with Saturday hours of 8:30 am‑12:30 pm, followed by an early finish the following week. We can offer flexibility with hours for the right candidate. There are no out‑of‑hours or reception responsibilities associated with this role.

General responsibilities include:

  • Theatre work
  • Inpatient care
  • Consulting
  • General nurse duties

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues

  • A proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement

How We’ll Support You

  • A varied and rewarding nursing role within a supportive primary care environment
  • Clear career pathways with progression opportunities into Senior Nurse, Referral, or leadership roles as well as clinical supervisors, mentors and certificate holders
  • Ongoing learning and development supported by experienced colleagues and practice teams
  • A collaborative, values‑led culture focused on care, community, and continuous improvement
