Head of Operational Delivery – Passive Fire

Location: London

Salary: £60k-£70k subject to experience

Reports to: Operations Director

Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Operational Delivery to lead and manage the Passive Fire division, overseeing a portfolio of contracts with full P&L responsibility. This pivotal role involves managing fire door maintenance and replacement programs, fire-stopping projects, and all other aspects of passive fire prevention. The successful candidate will drive operational excellence, ensure compliance with fire safety standards, and deliver high-quality service to clients.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement operational strategies to deliver passive fire prevention services effectively and efficiently.
  2. Lead a team of operational managers, site supervisors, and support staff to achieve performance targets and client satisfaction.
  3. Full ownership of the portfolio’s profit and loss, ensuring financial performance aligns with company targets.
  4. Monitor budgets, control costs, and maximize profitability across all contracts.
  5. Oversee the delivery of fire door maintenance and replacement programs, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  6. Manage fire-stopping projects and other passive fire prevention activities, ensuring timely and cost-effective execution.
  7. Ensure compliance with relevant fire safety regulations, building codes, and client requirements.
  8. Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, acting as the main point of contact for escalations and strategic discussions.
  9. Provide regular updates to clients on project progress, compliance, and performance metrics.

Team Leadership and Development:

  1. Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team to ensure operational excellence.
  2. Provide coaching, training, and development opportunities to enhance team capabilities.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  1. Ensure all work is completed in compliance with legal, safety, and quality standards, including British Standards and Building Regulations.
  2. Conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain the highest levels of safety and quality.
  3. Identify opportunities for process improvements and innovation to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
  4. Implement best practices and new technologies to stay ahead of industry trends.

Key Skills and Experience

  1. Proven experience in operational delivery within the passive fire sector or a related field.
  2. Strong knowledge of fire door maintenance and replacement, fire-stopping, and other passive fire safety measures.
  3. Demonstrable experience managing a portfolio of contracts with full P&L responsibility.
  4. Excellent understanding of fire safety regulations, standards, and compliance requirements.
  5. Exceptional leadership and team management skills with a track record of building high-performing teams.
  6. Strong client relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  7. Financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets, control costs, and drive profitability.
  8. Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.

Qualifications

  1. Relevant qualifications in fire safety, construction, or engineering (e.g., FDIS, BM TRADA, or equivalent).
  2. NEBOSH/IOSH certification is desirable.
  3. Membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g., IFSM, IFE) is an advantage.
  4. Proven track record of successfully managing operational teams in a fast-paced environment.
