Are you a qualified Audiologist looking to develop your specialist skills within a supportive and forward-thinking service? We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Specialist Audiologist to join our team, providing high-quality diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology services to adults and children with hearing difficulties.

As a Specialist Audiologist, you will work across a variety of clinical settings, supporting patients with hearing difficulties, as well as their families and carers. You will undertake a range of specialist and routine diagnostic assessments for both adults and children, where accurate and reliable results are essential to patient care.

Using your clinical expertise, you will interpret complex test results, assess patients' individual needs, and develop personalised treatment and management plans. You will provide ongoing advice, support and rehabilitation for adults with all types of hearing loss, including those with learning disabilities, additional needs and other complex requirements.

  • Undertake specialist and routine audiological assessments for adults and children.
  • Accurately record and interpret diagnostic results using computerised systems.
  • Develop and implement personalised treatment and rehabilitation plans.
  • Provide expert advice and support to patients, families and carers.
  • Manage and prioritise a specialist caseload independently.
  • Lead within a specialist area of Audiology practice.
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
  • Support the training, development and clinical supervision of junior staff and students.
  • Maintain high standards of clinical practice through continuous professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with professional standards, policies and codes of practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Adhere to departmental and professional standards/protocols.

2. Be accountable to the Head of Audiology for own professional actions when dealing with patients.

3. Accurately record electronic patient records by inputting personally generated observations and test results onto the computer based patient management system

4. Liaise and communicate with other Audiology departmental staff, GPs, medical colleagues, ward staff, hearing aid manufacturers, teachers of the deaf and social services staff.

5. Communicate effectively at all times with patients, relatives and carers to give and receive complex or sensitive information and instructions. This involves use of persuasive, motivational and empathic skills whilst being sensitive to an individual’s complex barriers to communication (i.e. hearing loss, Deaf and non-speaking individuals, those with learning difficulties, visual difficulties, cultural differences and fear)

6. Perform examination of the external ear canal to assess the condition of the canal and ear drum. Recognise contraindications to further treatment (e.g. perforations, ear discharge, blood and/or wax in ear canal) and refer to the appropriate professional when necessary e.g Highly Specialist Audiologist, ENT staff, GP, Nurse Practitioner.

Education

  • Hold a valid audiology qualification
  • Have NHS experience
