A unique opportunity at one of Britain’s most exciting mining projects

We’re looking for experienced Field Service Engineers to join McHale Komatsu and work as part of our dedicated engineering presence at Tungsten West in Plymouth.

This is more than a typical field-based engineering role. You’ll be based at a major customer site, representing McHale Komatsu and providing the hands‑on technical expertise needed to keep industry‑leading heavy equipment operating safely, reliably and efficiently.

With multiple positions available and the site operating 24 hours a day, we’re interested in speaking with engineers who are open to working a variety of shift patterns. In return, we offer a highly competitive package, excellent overtime rates and the opportunity to play an important role in a high‑profile operation.

The Opportunity

As a Field Service Engineer based at Tungsten West, you’ll carry out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repairs across the machinery operating on site.

You’ll work closely with the customer and your McHale Komatsu colleagues to respond quickly to breakdowns, minimise downtime and ensure equipment continues to perform at its best.

As one of our representatives on site, you’ll combine strong technical ability with a professional and customer‑focused approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend machine breakdowns and complete effective repairs to minimise downtime.
  • Carry out planned servicing and preventative maintenance.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic faults.
  • Monitor machine performance and identify potential issues before they lead to failure.
  • Deliver consistently high standards of workmanship and customer service.
  • Work collaboratively with the customer’s site team and McHale Komatsu support departments.
  • Complete service reports and other documentation accurately and on time.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and professional working environment.
  • Follow all company and site‑specific health and safety procedures.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the role when required.

What We’re Looking For

  • An NVQ Level 3 qualification in Plant Maintenance, or an equivalent engineering qualification.
  • Experience servicing and repairing heavy plant, construction, mining, agricultural or similarly complex equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of engines, hydraulics, transmissions and auto-electrics.
  • Confident fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a site‑based team.
  • A professional, dependable and customer‑focused approach.
  • Good communication and IT skills.
  • Flexibility to work a range of shift patterns as part of a 24‑hour site operation.

What You’ll Receive

  • A highly competitive salary package.
  • Company van with the option for personal use.
  • Up to 27 days’ annual leave, linked to length of service, plus bank holidays and Christmas shutdown.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Ongoing manufacturer and technical training.
  • Genuine opportunities for long‑term career development.
  • The chance to represent McHale Komatsu at a major customer operation.

Ready for your next engineering challenge?

If you’re an experienced engineer looking for something beyond the usual field service role, this is an excellent opportunity to join a respected and growing business while becoming a key part of our operation at Tungsten West.

We have multiple positions available and would be pleased to hear from engineers interested in the different shift patterns required across the site.
