The Industrial Designer supports the development and improvement of McGregor’s products. This role combines industrial design, product refinement, SolidWorks development, prototyping, and technical documentation. The focus is on helping create practical, well-designed products that are easy to manufacture, install, communicate, and improve over time.
A key part of the role is bridging product design and manufacturing. The Industrial Designer must be proficient in SolidWorks and work closely with manufacturing teams to develop products in a practical, production-ready manner. This reflects the need for McGregor’s manufacturing and product functions to work closely together.
- Help improve existing products in a structured and practical way
- Generate and refine ideas through sketching, CAD, prototyping, and testing
- Use SolidWorks to develop products into practical, manufacturable designs
- Produce 2D and 3D design information suitable for manufacture and assembly
- Work closely with manufacturing to improve quality, reduce waste, and simplify production
- Support the handover of product designs into manufacturing
- Create and maintain product manuals, installation guides, technical documents, and customer-facing product information
- Work with manufacturing, operations, construction, sales, and marketing
Requirements:
- Degree in Industrial Design, or similar
- Experience in product development, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial business
- Strong SolidWorks capability
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture
- Able to create production-ready drawings, models, and product information
- Creative but grounded in real-world manufacture
