As an SVP Engineering Manager within FX Technology Tier 1 Investment Bank, you will provide senior technical and people leadership across critical FX and Cross‑Border Payments platforms. You will operate as a trusted technology partner to the business, accountable for delivery, architectural direction, and engineering excellence. This is a hands‑on leadership role, combining strategic oversight with deep technical engagement. The role does not carry direct budget responsibility but has significant influence across platform strategy and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and inspire high‑performing engineering teams delivering mission‑critical FX systems
- Partner with senior stakeholders across FX Technology and Payments to define and implement scalable, business‑aligned solutions
- Drive platform and system architecture using an AI‑first and cloud‑aware approach utilising a throughput Java platform with performance, latency performance and resilience central to your approach.
- Provide technical thought leadership, remaining close to code, design decisions, and delivery quality
- Shape team structure, roles, and responsibilities to maximise impact, efficiency, and resilience
- Own senior people‑management responsibilities including hiring, performance management, development, and succession planning
- Ensure strong adherence to engineering standards, risk controls, and documented policies and procedures
- Champion best practices, transparency, and consistency across the wider technology organisation
- Lead local and regional staff forums, communicating global strategy and progress to teams
- Act as an engineering role model and senior influencer across Technology and the wider organisation
Key Skills & Experience Required:
- Proven experience working closely with FX or Cross‑Border Payments business teams
- Strong understanding of FX market structure, workflows, and technology platforms
- Demonstrable track record of building new Java systems, modernising legacy platforms, and leading large‑scale change
- Deep understanding of complex system architectures spanning software, infrastructure, and networks
- Proven ability to build and lead high‑performing engineering teams at scale
- Exceptional communication skills, with the credibility to influence senior technology and business stakeholders
- Strong experience collaborating across globally distributed and cross‑functional teams
- Computer Science or Maths‑related degree
Preferred:
- Broad engineering background with hands‑on credibility and the ability to deep‑dive into Java codebases
- Experience leveraging emerging technologies and industry trends to drive platform evolution
- Background operating at SVP / senior engineering leadership level within a complex, regulated environment
