Job Description - Multi-Skilled Operative (HS2 Project)
Location: HS2 Construction Sites (Various Locations)
Reports To: Site Supervisor / Construction Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time
Rate: £17.69 - £26.54
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of construction and civil engineering tasks, including groundworks, concreting, drainage, fencing, minor carpentry, and general site maintenance.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Assist plant operators, engineers, and specialist contractors as required.
- Carry out excavation support, duct installation, kerbing, paving, and reinstatement works.
- Install and maintain temporary works, barriers, signage, and site protection measures.
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and work areas, reporting defects or hazards promptly.
- Support environmental protection measures and sustainability initiatives on site.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment.
- Follow all project procedures, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Attend toolbox talks, safety briefings, and training sessions.
- Assist with emergency response procedures and incident reporting when required.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, subcontractors, and site management teams.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Responsibilities
- Comply with all HS2, client, and company health and safety requirements.
- Wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents immediately.
- Adhere to environmental regulations and site-specific controls.
- Promote a positive safety culture and actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience within construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, or rail projects.
- Valid CSCS Card.
- Good understanding of health and safety regulations.
- Ability to use a range of construction tools and equipment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable, flexible, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Full UK driving licence (preferred).
Desirable Qualifications
- CPCS or NPORS certification.
- EUSR, CAT & Genny, or Confined Space certification.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
- Street Works (NRSWA) accreditation.
- Experience working on major infrastructure projects.
- Manual Handling and Working at Height training.
