This job in Edinburgh with a leading charity is an outstanding opportunity for a qualified accountant with strong charity SORP experience to add real value from a financial and strategic perspective. The charity has a number of facets and adds real value to communities across the country. Moreover, the finance team is widely recognised as a “best in class” function, offering interesting and challenging work in a friendly, supportive environment.

As Senior Finance Manager, you will report to the Finance Director and manage a small team of qualified and non-qualified staff. Your role will be broad in scope and see you focus on key areas such as income, investments, improving systems and processes and a broader Change Management piece.

In particular, some of your key duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Develop, implement and oversee income streams for the organisation – maintaining systems to ensure that income is received
  • Analyse, model and interpret trends in income and reserves to inform the budgeting and financial planning process
  • Ensure compliance with the legal requirements for charity accounts and regulations
  • Review and support the production of statutory annual accounts in accordance with Charity SORP and FRS 102
  • Oversee management accounting, budgeting, longer term forecasts as well as supporting on cross-functional projects
  • Support the Finance Director with a variety of bespoke initiatives

To be successful, it is envisaged that you will have trained as an accountant in professional practice, ideally having prepared accounts from complete and incomplete records as part of your training. Your post-qualifying experience will ideally see you continue to work in the charity sphere, either as a manager/senior manager in professional practice, or working in a value-add role in a charity environment. Most likely, you will be a fully qualified accountant with at least 5-8 years’ PQE and be passionate about the charity sector.

The organisation is undergoing a significant period of change and this role is an ideal platform for someone looking to make Finance Director level in the next 3-5 years, or looking for a senior role that focuses on strategic value add, rather than transactional/operational finance.
