McGeoch Technology Ltd. is a well-established and expanding manufacturing company based in Birmingham. We are now looking to recruit for the position of Fabrication / Welder.
The successful applicant will be based at our client's production facility in Birmingham city centre.
The Role
Reporting to the Production Manager as part of the Fabrication / Welder team, your responsibilities will include preparation and welding of mild steel, Aluminium, and Stainless steel, with thicknesses of material ranging from 1mm - 10mm.
Key Areas & Responsibilities
- Fabrication of Mild steel, Stainless-steel & Aluminium components ensuring the highest standards in finish and tolerances are achieved using sound trade methods.
- Must hold the following accreditations: BS EN ISO 15614 -1 & BS EN ISO 15614 -2 and be approved to weld Butt, Fillet, and plug.
- Weld components and framework using TIG & MIG welding processes.
- Position, align, and fit parts according to specifications.
- Grind, sand, polish, and detail fabrications to the required finish using hand and power tools to a high standard.
- Measure and examine completed work to verify conformance to specifications.
- Complete all fabrication tasks in the agreed time frames or better.
- Operate manual machine tools as part of the fabrication process when required.
- Maintain machines in a tidy and well-maintained manner, undertaking maintenance as necessary.
- Ensure that the supply of consumables, i.e. gas, welding wire, etc., does not run out.
- Work with the Manager to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
- Maintain tools, gauges, and equipment in a clean, orderly, and safe manner.
- Display flexibility to work in other departments and overtime as necessary to assist the company in meeting production goals.
- Liaise with the design team and provide input into new designs.
- Complete administrative tasks as required.
- Work from drawings without supervision and report drawing errors.
Competencies
- Proven knowledge and experience of Industrial Fabrication.
- Significant Industry exposure.
- BS EN ISO 15614 -1 & BS EN ISO 15614 -2 accreditation (in date).
- Knowledge of metal finishing techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, weld procedures, and work instructions.
- Ability to recognise welding symbols and specifications.
- Be customer and results focused, have integrity, and be a proven team player.
