McGeoch Technology Ltd. Have an exciting opportunity for the position of Electrical Production Engineer who will hold suitable qualifications in Electrical Engineering. The successful applicant will be based at our production, assembly and test facility in Birmingham City Centre, where we design, manufacture, and repair a range of products and services for defence and industrial markets including ATEX Lighting, Electrical Distribution, Instrumentation and Control solutions.

THE ROLE

The Role will report to the Production Manager/Operations Manager with a link to our CI Team and will be our subject matter expert on all electrical matters to support and improve delivery of products to our customers. The Electrical Production Engineer is responsible for ensuring high-quality, compliant, and efficient production of naval electrical systems. This role combines technical expertise with, maintaining strict defence and safety standards, and supporting the company's growth objectives.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Support the manufacture and assembly of naval electrical equipment to engineering drawings, specifications, and standards.
  • Work closely with production teams to resolve technical issues and improve processes.
  • Review engineering information to ensure products can be manufactured effectively.
  • Support new product introduction activities and engineering changes.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation including SSOW.
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency and production/manufacturing processes.
  • Working with design, production, purchasing and quality teams to deliver projects successfully.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues across the business.
  • Act as the electrical support for continuous improvement projects driven by the CI team.
  • Act as a mentor and SQEP to a team of Electrical Assemblers, Panel Wirers in a safety critical environment.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant standards (e.g., ISO, IPC, and defence-specific requirements)
  • Conduct inspections, audits, and signoffs where required.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Proven experience in electrical assembly within a regulated or high-reliability industry (defence, marine, aerospace, etc.)
  • Experience in assembly of electrical control systems, bespoke panel solutions, switchboards, motor drive or similar electrical systems.
  • IPC standards (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620)
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
  • Experience mentoring others in a production or assembly team
  • Knowledge of quality standards and compliance requirements
  • Strong problem-solving and organisational skills

Desirable

  • Experience with naval or defence electrical systems
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Formal technical qualification in electrical engineering or related field

Summary

This is a critical role within our production team, ideal for someone who combines hands-on electrical assembly expertise with the ability to act as the lead and SQEP to the Production/Operations Manager. The successful candidate will directly contribute to delivering high-quality naval electrical equipment and supporting the company's ambitious growth trajectory.

This role is only open to British Passport Holders with no dual Nationality. Dual Nationality may be considered for a specific list of countries. The restrictions are in place due to the sensitivity of the work involved in respect of security clearances imposed by the MOD.
