We are McGee, a specialist engineering contractor with a reputation for designing and delivering some of London’s most complex and innovative civil engineering projects. We provide a value-based integrated approach, focusing on quality and innovation. We develop smart engineering solutions to complex problems and methods of working that enable fast delivery with safety and quality by design. We operate a risk-based approach in everything that we do, identifying and mitigating risks through our planning.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to join our in-house Construction Engineering Team. This is a key role where you will play an important part in delivering geotechnical design and analysis for complex temporary works on high-profile London projects.
Responsibilities:
- Geotechnical analysis and design from feasibility through to detailed design (throughout tender and live project stages).
- Developing innovative and practical engineering solutions, challenging briefs where necessary.
- Producing clear, buildable, and efficient design solutions aligned with construction methodologies.
- Identifying, mitigating and managing geotechnical and construction risks.
- Collaborating closely with project, construction, and temporary works teams to ensure designs are deliverable within programme and site constraints.
Qualifications:
- Ideally, at least 5 years’ experience in geotechnical design within a consultancy or contractor design team.
Required Skills:
- Competence in understanding and interpreting geotechnical investigation data.
- Experience across geotechnical analysis software (primarily WALLAP and PLAXIS 2D).
- Strong understanding of geotechnical design codes and processes.
- Ability to translate complex analysis into practical, buildable solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
This is more than a design role; you’ll be part of a team delivering some of the most challenging engineering projects in London, where your work has real impact from design through to construction.
Why Join Us?
- We are an employee-owned business where everyone has a genuine stake in our success.
- Career progression - Join a small, dynamic team where your impact is visible, valued, and backed by a clear pathway for progression.
- Work that matters – Deliver flagship London projects that push technical boundaries.
- See it built – Design with construction in mind and watch your ideas come to life on site.
- Real influence – Your ideas shape how projects are delivered, not just how they’re designed.
- Innovative culture – We challenge convention and encourage smarter, more effective solutions.
- Collaborative environment – Work side-by-side with construction teams, not in isolation.
