HGV Class 2 Block Offloader Driver
Reports to: Transport Manager / Office Staff
Job Purpose: To safely operate a Class 2 HGV fitted with a crane/offloader to deliver concrete blocks and building materials to customers and sites, ensuring timely, safe, and efficient service in compliance with company policies and all legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Driving & Delivery
- Operate a Class 2 vehicle fitted with a lorry-mounted crane (HIAB/offloader).
- Transport and deliver concrete blocks, packs, and associated building materials to customer sites.
- Plan and follow delivery schedules efficiently to meet customer requirements.
- Manoeuvre vehicle safely in restricted sites and urban areas.
- Loading & Offloading
- Safely operate the crane/offloader to deliver materials to specified locations on site.
- Secure loads in compliance with legal and company safety standards.
- Check load weight distribution before travel to ensure safe handling.
- Vehicle Operation & Maintenance
- Complete daily vehicle checks (oil, water, tyres, lights, tachograph, etc.) and report defects.
- Keep the vehicle, crane, and lifting equipment clean, maintained, and roadworthy.
- Complete delivery paperwork, PODs, and ensure accurate records are kept.
- Customer Service
- Act as a professional representative of the company, delivering excellent customer service.
- Liaise with site personnel to coordinate safe unloading.
- Provide courteous and helpful service, addressing customer queries or reporting issues.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Comply with all Road Traffic and Working Time regulations.
- Follow company health & safety policies and site-specific rules.
- Wear appropriate PPE at all times and ensure safe lifting operations.
- Operate crane/offloader equipment only within trained and certified limits.
Skills & Qualifications
- Essential:
- Valid UK Class 2 (Category C) HGV licence.
- Valid CPC (Driver Certificate of Professional Competence).
- Digital Tachograph card.
- Understanding of load security and lifting operations.
- Desirable:
- Previous experience delivering building materials or working in the construction supply industry.
