Position: Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Location: County Tyrone

Reporting to: Operations Director

Working as a key member of the Operations Management team and reporting to the Operations Director, you will be responsible for a manufacturing engineering department who strive for operational excellence using best practice lean methods. You will lead a team of manufacturing engineers responsible for continuous Improvement projects and events, developing and improving on processes.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage, lead, train and develop a team that includes lead Manufacturing engineers, senior manufacturing engineers, manufacturing engineers by setting SMART objectives in line with company priorities.
  • Responsibility for Manufacturing attribute ownership for existing & new models within ERP SYSTEM (Oracle TMS) ensuring accuracy and efficiency of material flow to production including kanban.
  • Oversee New Product & Process Development, Design For Manufacture reviews, Establishing processes and Production Launches.
  • Ensure standard work, jigs and fixtures are available for the production team to ensure safe, high quality and repeatable manufacturing techniques for existing product and NPPD projects.
  • Lead by example with Problem Solving activities and coach the team in driving a people focused lean culture.
  • Promote Lean manufacturing tools within the business, focusing on Elimination of Waste (Muda), 5S & Visual Management, Kaizen, Level Production (Takt), Material and Assembly Flow, Pull Systems, Inventory Control, Plan for every Part, Just in Time, Jidoka, Kanban, Standardised work.
  • Justify Actual Savings (e.g. Manufacturing Spend Savings, Rework reduction, Labour, Warranty, Waste Disposal spend) as well as Purchased Price savings where relevant.
  • Assist with meeting all KPIs across the Big Five: Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Morale, with an added responsibility for morale, developing and implementing Reward and Recognition initiatives.
  • Work with Operations team to ensure best practice setting up and refining assembly flow lines to improve efficiencies, increase capacity and meet demand requirements.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a senior position, leading people within a manufacturing environment is essential.
  • Experience leading, training, developing and motivating teams large teams.
  • Ability to demonstrate experience of working within a production line/ manufacturing environment as a successful agent for change.
  • Proven track record and practical experience of lean manufacturing tools and techniques and their application is essential.
  • Proven experience of coaching and driving lean principles.
  • Knowledge of cutting, welding and fabrication would be advantageous

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills are all essential, as well as the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Excellent IT Skills, specifically with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) with good understanding of CAD.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Must be adaptable with the ability to work in an environment that is fluid with constantly changing priorities without losing sight of targets.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
  • Good general knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental regulations.
  • Ability to learn quickly, use your initiative and work collaboratively as part of a multi-functional team.
  • Self-motivated and action oriented.
  • Excellent English communication skills, written and spoken.
  • Highest level of integrity.
