The interview is an absolutely vital part of our hiring process. Without it, we wouldn’t get a proper picture of what kind of person you are, and whether you’d be a great fit at McDonald’s. The interview will normally involve a set of questions around values and attitudes and will allow the interviewee to show us why they are the right person for the job. For instance, we might ask for an example of times you’ve worked as part of a team and how you made a difference to that team. We look for the right attitudes and behaviours to deliver a great customer and colleague experience; we hire for qualities and potential, rather than qualifications.

Our employees tend to stick around. Partly because it’s a fun, sociable and flexible place to work, but also because there are opportunities to progress into roles with more responsibility. In fact, 9 out of 10 of our restaurant managers, and 1 in 5 of our franchisees, started out as crew members behind the counter or in the kitchens. We’ve also been recognised as a leading employer, offering award-winning learning, nationally recognised qualifications, comprehensive benefits and flexible working arrangements, as well as a well-proved career path.

McDonald’s UK is committed to our core values: Serve, Inclusion, Integrity, Community and Family. We live by our values every day and are committed to fostering a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace, providing quality jobs, and making opportunity open to all.

As a Crew Member, you will:

  • Prepare food, serve on the till or fulfil duties in the dining area, ensuring hot food in a clean and friendly restaurant.
  • Consistently deliver the highest standards of quality, service and cleanliness in the restaurant.
  • Provide friendly, fast and accurate service, completing tasks in line with training, company guidelines and management direction.
  • Follow all workplace safety, security and food hygiene procedures.
  • Treat all customers and colleagues with courtesy and respect, working as a supportive team member.

We want candidates who have a can-do attitude, confidence in themselves, and are team players. Friendly, welcoming, courteous and helpful behaviour comes naturally with effective communication skills – attentive listening, face-to-face verbal communication and eye contact are a must. The ability to maintain high energy levels whilst working efficiently and productively is essential.

Benefits package includes:

  • Holiday pay
  • Service awards
  • Meal allowance
  • Employee discounts from top high-street and online brands
  • Premium shift pay for overnight shifts between midnight and 5 am
  • Above the national minimum wage
  • Holiday and sick pay
  • Access to discounts at over 1,600 retailers

Employees can be paid every 2 or 4 weeks for hourly paid roles, and monthly for dedicated salary employees. Shift types and hours vary by location; over half of our restaurants are open 24 hours a day.

If you are unable to make any interview slots offered, you can get back in touch with Olivia and she will help you rearrange. McDonald’s is working hard on sustainability, launching a net-zero restaurant in 2021. For further questions on age requirements and other details, please refer to our full policies.
