What to expect in the interview
The interview is a vital part of our hiring process to understand what kind of person you are and whether you would be a good fit at McDonald’s. The interview will involve questions around values and attitudes, and will allow you to show us why you are the right person for the job. For example, we might ask for an example of times you’ve worked as part of a team and how you contributed to that team. We hire for the right attitudes and behaviours to deliver a great customer and colleague experience, focusing on potential as well as qualities, rather than solely on qualifications.
What prospects do I have working at McDonald’s?
Our employees tend to stay with us because it is a fun, sociable and flexible place to work, with opportunities to progress into roles with more responsibility. Many managers and franchisees started as crew members behind the counter or in the kitchens. We are recognised as a leading employer with award-winning learning, nationally-recognised qualifications, comprehensive benefits and flexible working arrangements, plus a proven career path.
What it’s like to work as a Crew Member
You’ll be working in a fast-moving, high-energy environment. We look for a genuine smile, enthusiasm, energy, and the ability to connect with customers so they feel valued. You’ll be part of a team and expected to deliver a high standard of customer service and support. The role includes activities such as preparing food, serving on the till, and assisting in the dining areas. You will consistently deliver quality, service and cleanliness in the restaurant, provide friendly, fast and accurate service, follow training and company guidelines, and maintain workplace safety, security and food hygiene procedures. Treat all customers and colleagues with courtesy and respect as a supportive team member.
Benefits and pay
Benefits package includes holiday pay, service awards, meal allowance, employee discounts from top high street and online brands, and more. Some roles offer premium shifts. If you work overnights (midnight to 5am), you’ll earn extra pay. All team members earn above the national minimum wage. We offer holiday and sick pay and discounts at over 1,600 retailers.

If you can’t make any interview slots, you can use Olivia to rearrange a suitable date.
Sustainability
McDonald’s has sustainability plans and pledges. In 2021, we launched our first net-zero restaurant. More information is available about our sustainability efforts.
Pay frequency and shifts
Payout frequency varies by whether you work in a franchised or company-owned restaurant. Typically, pay can be every 2 or 4 weeks for hourly staff, and monthly for salaried employees. Our restaurant hours vary by location; over half of our restaurants are open 24 hours a day. Shifts are scheduled to suit you while meeting business needs and legal time limits. Uniforms are provided.
Career progression
McDonald’s promotes its employees and values talent. Half of our Executive Team started in restaurants, and there are opportunities to progress within the business.
