Job Overview

Before we can employ you, we are required to verify your eligibility to work in the UK & Ireland. Acceptable documents to evidence your right to work can be found here. You’ll need to provide original documents such as a valid passport or a valid UK/Ireland visa (with a college letter listing term dates, where applicable). Only original documents will be accepted.

Interview Process

The interview is an absolutely vital part of our hiring process. Without it, we wouldn’t get a proper picture of what kind of person you are, and whether you’d be a great fit at McDonald’s. The interview will normally involve a set of questions around values and attitudes and will allow the interviewee to really show us why they’re the right person for the job.

  • For instance, we might ask for an example of times you’ve worked as part of a team and how you made a difference to that team.

In short, we look for people who have the right attitudes and behaviours to deliver a great customer and colleague experience; we hire for qualities and potential, rather than qualifications.

Career Prospects

Our employees tend to stick around. Partly because it’s a fun, sociable and flexible place to work, but also because there are opportunities to progress into roles with more responsibility. In fact, 9 out of 10 of our restaurant managers, and 1 in 5 of our franchisees, started out as crew members behind the counter or in the kitchens. That’s an unbelievable stat that we’re very proud of. We’ve also been recognised as a leading employer over the years, offering award‑winning learning, nationally‑recognised qualifications, comprehensive benefits and flexible working arrangements, as well as a well‑proven career path.

Required Attitudes & Skills

  • Have a can‑do attitude.
  • Be confident in yourself.
  • Be a team player.
  • Friendly, welcoming, courteous and helpful behaviour.
  • Effective communication skills such as attentive listening, face‑to‑face verbal communication and eye contact.
  • Maintain high energy levels whilst working efficiently and productively.

Core Values

McDonald’s is one of the most recognised brands in the world, and the backbone of our brand is commitment to a set of core values: Serve, Inclusion, Integrity, Community and Family. We live by our values every day and are committed to fostering a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace, providing quality jobs, and making opportunity open to all.

Responsibilities

As a Crew Member, you will make it happen, whether you’re preparing food, serving on the till or being out in the dining areas looking after our customers’ needs. You will consistently deliver the highest standards of quality, service and cleanliness in the restaurant. Provide friendly, fast and accurate service. Complete tasks and activities in line with training, company guidelines and management direction. Follow all workplace safety, security and food hygiene procedures. Treat all customers and colleagues with courtesy and respect, working as a supportive team member.

Benefits Package

  • Holiday pay
  • Meal allowance
  • Employee discounts from top high street and online brands
  • Additional benefits such as premium shift pay, extra pay for overnight shifts (midnight to 5am), above the national minimum wage, holiday and sick pay

Payment Frequency

This can vary depending on whether you work in a franchised or company owned restaurant. Typically, the payment can be every 2 or 4 weeks for hourly paid employees, and monthly for employees on a dedicated salary.

Shifts & Hours

Our restaurant hours range from location to location, but over half of our restaurants are open 24 hours a day. We schedule most shifts to suit you, but also take working time legislation and our business needs into account.

Uniform

Just one of the benefits of working at McDonald’s is that you don’t have to worry about what to wear to work; we will supply you with a uniform.

Career Progression

McDonald’s promotes its employees. Half of our Executive Team started in restaurants. At McDonald’s, there are no limits to how far or fast you can progress.

Minimum Age

Eligible applicants must be at least 16 years old.

Equal Employment Opportunity Statement

McDonald’s is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All employment opportunities are judged by merit, without discrimination.
