Right to work
Before we can employ you, we are required to verify your eligibility to work in the UK & Ireland. Acceptable documents to evidence your right to work can be found here. You’ll need to provide original documents such as a valid passport or a valid UK/Ireland visa (with a college letter listing term dates, where applicable). Only original documents will be accepted.
Interview process
The interview is an absolutely vital part of our hiring process. Without it, we wouldn’t get a proper picture of what kind of person you are, and whether you’d be a great fit at McDonald's. The interview will normally involve a set of questions around values and attitudes and will allow the interviewee to really show us why they are the right person for the job. For instance, we might ask for an example of times you’ve worked as part of a team and how you made a difference to that team. In short, we look for people who have the right attitudes and behaviours to deliver a great customer and colleague experience; we hire for qualities and potential, rather than qualifications.
Prospects and culture
Our employees tend to stick around. Partly because it’s a fun, sociable and flexible place to work, but also because there are opportunities to progress into roles with more responsibility. In fact, 9 out of 10 of our restaurant managers, and 1 in 5 of our franchisees, started out as crew members behind the counter or in the kitchens. We’ve been recognised as a leading employer, offering award-winning learning, nationally-recognised qualifications, comprehensive benefits and flexible working arrangements, as well as a well-proven career path.
Role expectations
We’re looking for a genuine smile plus an ability to connect with customers and make them feel valued. Friendly, welcoming, courteous and helpful behaviour will come naturally, and you’ll work well as part of a team. Effective communication skills such as attentive listening, face-to-face verbal communication and eye contact are a must. The ability to maintain high energy levels whilst working efficiently and productively is essential.
Working environment and values
McDonald’s is committed to a set of core values: Serve, Inclusion, Integrity, Community and Family. We live by our values every day and are committed to fostering a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace, providing quality jobs, and making opportunity open to all.
Benefits and pay
Benefits package includes: Holiday pay, Service Awards, Meal allowance, Employee discounts from top high street and online brands and much more. Premium Shift pay may apply for overnight work. If you work overnights, between midnight and 5am, you’ll earn extra pay. Every team member, including hourly-paid workers, earns above the national minimum wage. We also offer a range of benefits including holiday and sick pay, and employee discounts that offer savings at over 1,600 retailers.
Interview scheduling
If you cannot make any of the interview slots offered to you in the recruitment process, you can get back in touch with Olivia and she will help you rearrange to find a date suitable for you.
Sustainability
Does McDonald’s have sustainability plans or pledges in place? We are working hard to take the necessary steps towards a more sustainable business and future. In 2021, we launched our first net-zero restaurant. Watch this video to learn more about our new store.
Pay frequency and shifts
Pay frequency varies: typically every 2 or 4 weeks for hourly paid employees, and monthly for salaried employees. Our restaurant hours vary by location; over half of our restaurants are open 24 hours a day. Shifts are scheduled to suit you while considering legal requirements and business needs.
Attire
You don’t have to worry about what to wear to work; we will provide a uniform.
Career progression
McDonald’s promotes its employees; we value talent and always aim to encourage employees to remain within the business. Half of our Executive Team started in restaurants. There are no limits to how far or fast you can progress.
