SSEN Transmission is looking for an Electrical/Mechanical Fitter to help maintain its high voltage electricity transmission network across Inverness, Caithness and Moray.
This position would suit someone with experience working on electrical networks who enjoys practical engineering work and wants to develop their skills working with high voltage equipment.
The Role
- Carry out maintenance on electricity switchgear and plant up to 400kV.
- Inspect and maintain transformers, busbars and associated electrical equipment.
- Complete planned maintenance and routine inspections.
- Identify equipment defects and carry out repairs.
- Assist with electricity network construction works.
- Help maintain the safety and reliability of transmission infrastructure.
- Follow operational safety procedures and technical standards.
- Work across different sites throughout Inverness, Caithness and Moray.
- Support fault response and standby duties once the required authorisations have been obtained.
- Work with colleagues to complete maintenance activities safely and efficiently.
Working Pattern
- Permanent, full time position.
- Field based across Inverness, Caithness and Moray.
- Occasional working away from the base location may be required.
- Standby duties will form part of the role once the appropriate authorisations have been gained.
What We Are Looking For
- Demonstrable experience working on an electrical network.
- Strong commitment to health and safety.
- Ability to follow technical guidance and safe working procedures.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Flexible approach to changing operational requirements.
- Willingness to undertake training and develop high voltage authorisations.
- Full driving licence.
- Ability to work away from the base location occasionally.
- Experience maintaining low voltage and high voltage electrical plant would be advantageous.
- Previous high voltage experience within electricity transmission or a similar organisation would be beneficial.
- City & Guilds Part 232, SVQ Level 3 Electrical Apprenticeship or SVQ Level 3 Mechanical Apprenticeship qualifications are preferred.
